The histopathological panorama of Ileocecal Lymphomas: A disparate entity amongst customary primary gastro-intestinal lymphoma stereotypes
A microscopic rummage through a nexus of 14 cases
Abstract
Background: The most common extra nodal site for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is Gastrointestinal tract with Ileo-cecal being the commonest. Primary Gastrointestinal lymphoma is considered to be rare (1-4 %). We aim to study histopathological pattern of Primary Gastrointestinal lymphomas (PGIL) in the region of Kashmir.
Material and Methods: This study was done in a tertiary care center of Kashmir, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura, Srinagar. Jammu & Kashmir over a period of January 2022 to January 2025.
Results: This study includes a total of 14 cases of PGIL with male predominance. Most cases were observed in 5th to 6th decade of life. Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (10 cases) was most prevalent PGIL followed by Mantle cell lymphoma (2 cases) and Burkitt’s lymphoma (2 cases) each. Ileum was the most common site. Colonoscopic, radiological evaluation along with immunohistochemical work up was also done.
