Ruptured Intracranial Dermoid Cyst

Abstract

Background: Intracranial dermoid cysts are rare congenital inclusion cysts accounting for less than 1% of all intracranial tumors. Spontaneous rupture releases lipid droplets into the subarachnoid and ventricular spaces, producing chemical meningitis and acute neurological symptoms.
Clinical presentation
A young male in his 30s presented to the Emergency Department of SKIMS with sudden severe headache preceded by nausea. He had a history of chronic intermittent headache and low mood. Neurological examination was otherwise unremarkable.
