Abstract

As students of the infectious diseases we have learnt that epidemics buzz every decade or two but pandemics resonate once in a century. After devastation of Spanish flu in 1919-1920, influenza buzzed multiple times in last century in fifties, sixties,  nineties and last was in 2009.(1)

Pre shockwaves of a pandemic were felt during SARS of 2003 and MERS of 2012 but both aborted quickly. The dynamics of viruses had made 2019 pandemic inevitable. Its waves touched some countries twice and some countries multiple times redefining what we call excellent health care infrastructure. The best medical systems of world are on its knees.

As we step into 3rd year of the COVID Pandemic, the Wuhan prototype changed and metamorphosed itself true to its genetic character. Its progeny raged havoc in United Kingdom by Alpha and Delta, South Africa by Beta, Gamma for Brazil and India by Delta… for Theta, and many many more mutations which we may not be able to decipher or were not of clinical significance perished. COVID progeny has once again jolted us with new challenges remarkable among them being Oh my God… OMICRON. (2)
