Abstract

Serratia marcescenes is an opportunistic, gram negative bacillus classified as motile, non-lactose fermenting and a facultative anaerobe. The risk factor for the development of serratia marcescenes endocarditis is intravenous drug use (IVDU). We are reporting a case of infective endocarditis (IE) caused by S. marcescenes involving mitral valve further complicated by multifocal brain abscesses.
